STOP THE BEAR HUNT
This month’s speaker is Katrina Shadix, executive director of Bear Warriors United. She will be joining us to discuss the proposed 2025 Florida black bear hunt. Additionally, she will provide updates to the legal challenges involving the Spruce Creek/Pioneer Interchange and Manatee Starvation, leading to a surge in manatee deaths.
- Katrina is the founder and executive director of Bear Warriors United, a nonprofit organization. The organization focuses on protection and educating the public about Florida’s black bears, wildlife, wildlife habitat & corridors, natural lands, and waterways.
- Katrina graduated with Honors from Seminole State College. She was recognized by the 2009 Florida House of Representatives in HR 9051 as being a member of the All-Florida Academic Team. This legislative recognition is earned by having a high GPA that includes performing extensive community services. Additionally, Katrina is a second-generation Seminole County FL native. She is the proud mom of 27 year old UCF engineering grad Dane. Both received degrees from Seminole State College.
- Katrina serves on the Central Florida Expressway Environmental Advisory Group. She provides input to projects such as the toll road through Split Oak Forest and the toll road from the 417 exit through Lake Jesup wetlands to the Sanford Intl. Airport.
General Meeting Information: All programs are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 7 – 9:00 pm. The meeting location is at Harry P Leu Botanical Gardens, 1920 North Forest Avenue Orlando, Florida 32803 A brief discussion of environmental issues precedes the program along with information on upcoming outings and events.
